Match Report 16 April 2016

There were only four matches played this weekend, two in the Premier Division and two in Division One, with all Division Two teams having completed their league fixtures.

Hardwick Social Club secured the Premier Division title with an emphatic 9-0 victory over their closest rivals Portrack who finish the season as runners-up.  Hardwick took the lead on ten minutes when a cross from Kallum Hannah was turned into his own net past stand-in keeper Danny Rowbotham by Liam Connor.  Portrack strived for the equaliser but found the Hardwick defence difficult to breakdown.  Hardwick extended their lead on 27 minutes when a wayward shot by Kallum Hannah fell to Sonni Coleman who drove the ball home.  The same player added a third goal on 38 minutes following excellent work by Tony Johnson who slipped the ball to Coleman who drilled the ball home from the edge of the area to make the score 3-0 going into half time.  The second half saw Hardwick dominate proceedings and Kallum Hannah extended the lead on 56 minutes and five minutes later Jamie Owens was put through but Rowbotham saved only to see Johnson following up and slotted home goal number five.  They further extended the score with two quick goals from Jamie Owens the first a cross from Charlie Raby and the second a cross from Michael Arthur that gave him a simple tap in.  On 82 minutes Owens completed his hat-trick and then on 85 minutes completed the scoring when he robbed a defender just inside the Portrack half and ran in on goal beating Rowbotham with a low shot to complete the rout.

Also in the Premier Division Billingham The White House won a typical end of season affair against Thornaby Village who competed throughout as the game flowed end to end.  Billingham The White House took the lead through Christopher Atkinson in what can only be described as a fluke or a quality finish with the keeper off his line and from all of 30 yards found the net.  In the second half Billingham The White House passed up several glorious chances to make the game safe but inept and woeful play saw all chances spurned.  Thornaby Village capitalised on this and on the hour mark saw a sharp strike from Karl Charlton after a horrendous mistake by the ever so reliable Kevin Osmond.  With 15 minutes to go substitute Liam Preston stooped to head home what turned out to be the winning goal.

In Division One Billingham The Kings entertained Thornaby Roundel and it was the visitors who came out on top 3-1 with goals from Lee Saunders, Kieran Campbell and Daniel Longley and Michael Doyle replied for Billingham The Kings.  Jolly Farmers moved up to third following their 5-1 win away to Doctor McGonigles with two goals for Brian Johnson and each from Rory McCabe, Charlie Iveson and substitute Louie Dunning.
